Fielding's Grocer and Tea Dealer (DH 127)
Obv: EAST INDIA HOUSE
Rev: The Grocer's arms. HALFPENNY 1792 - Motto GOD GRANT GRACE
Edge: PAYABLE AT I. FIELDINGS MANCHESTER

Notes:

East India HouseJohn Fielding was a tea dealer and grocer at 27 Withey Grove, Manchester.

The Old East India House shown prior to its alteration in 1799, stood on the south side of Leadenhall Street, London. The old company was formed in 1600 under a charter from Queen Elizabeth styling it the "Governor and Company of Merchants of London, Trading to the East Indies." This company was dissolved in 1698 and a new one, "The English East India Company, " was incorporated; but the old company managed to obtain trading rights, and so the two companies amalgamated in 1708 under the title of the "United East India Company, " nicknamed Honorable John Company.

The Grocers' Company is one of the twelve principal Corporate Companies. They were originally known as the Pepperers, but were incorporated as the Grocers in the reign of Edward III, and their Arms and Supporters were granted in the reign of Henry VIII - excerpt from COMMERCIAL COINS 1787-1804 by R.C. Bell
